The local community now has until Friday June 30 to comment on a development proposed for the site of the historic Laurieton Post Office and Postmaster’s residence.

Acting Mayor Lisa Intemann said she had been approached by Phillip Bowman of the Camden Haven Historical Society seeking further opportunity for resident comment on the proposal.
“There were concerns about the notification of the development, and the time frame that was offered to the Historical Society to make comments on the proposal,” Cr Intemann said.
“I had discussions with council officers and it has been agreed that the community should have more opportunity to comment, with the new deadline now Friday June 30.”
The documents can be accessed through the DA tracker on the council’s website pmhc.nsw.gov.au with comments able to be lodged electronically.
This is an important heritage site, involving some of the few of Laurieton’s oldest public buildings still surviving since the 1890's, and it is vital that the community is involved in decisions for its future.

The council’s planning staff can also be contacted on 6581 8111 to discuss the proposal, provide assistance in accessing the information and help make a submission.
“Submissions need not be long, but they must relate specifically to the information on exhibition,” said Cr Intemann.

The owner of the historic property is proposing a $500,000 development which would see two commercial premises built on Lake Street and the residence extended.
