Professor Noriya Uedo was at Port Macquarie Private Hospital where he observed patients undergoing an endoscopic procedure under one of our local gastroenterologists Dr Stuart Kostalas.
The visit has allowed Professor Uedo to share the Japanese experience in image enhanced endoscopy, endoscopic resection and standardised endoscopy practice, said hospital chief executive officer Connie Porter.
“The team at Port Macquarie Private Hospital were excited to host an international leader in endoscopy and found the experience very beneficial for knowledge sharing,” Ms Porter said.
The visit of Professor Noriya Uedo was coordinated by Dr Stuart Kostalas, who has worked with the Professor in Japan.
Dr Kostalas said the visit increased the awareness, skills and the local delivery of advanced endoscopic services.
“Professor Uedo provided teaching session for the local medical community,” Dr Kostalas said.
“It was exciting to have a world renowned Japanese expert travel to Port to teach and mentor me in advanced endoscopy.
“I look forward to expanding the use of these less invasive techniques in the service of our community.”
