The Hastings Valley Fine Art Association has just announced the winners of the 11th Annual Summer Showcase Art Exhibition at the Laurieton United Services Club.

The judge, Bridget Purtill, from the Glasshouse Regional Gallery said she had a difficult job in choosing winners from so many quality paintings and took her most of the day and many circuits of the exhibition to do so.
Overall 303 works of art were exhibited with 105 in the Open Section. Eighty art lovers attended the Opening Evening.
The Mid North Coast Open Art Prize of $1,000 was won by Peta Coe from Valla with ‘Dragon’s Breath’. The highly commended award was presented to Lyn Thomas for her work ‘Coastline Bonny Hills’, and the commended award went to Erika Rohr for her ‘Panoramic View of Norfolk Island’.
In the Oil/Acrylic section Maureen Hales’ ‘Over the Hill’ was awarded first place. Highly Commended was Lyn Thomas for ‘Under the Falls’ and Judy Jelsma’s ‘Like a Bird on a Wire’ earned commendation.
In Watercolour, first place went to Roger Speaight for ‘Stormfront’. Highly commended was Brian Barker’s work ‘Jazz in the Vines’ and Ann Middleton’s ‘Rainbow Beach’ was commended.
For the Contemporary section Stewart Hambrett’s ‘White Out’ earned first place. Highly commended went to Jill Cairns for ‘Connection to the Land’ and Gail Sue’s ‘White Rain’ was commended.
The Pastel section was won by Jen Andrews for her work ‘Girl on a Bike’. Jill Cairns earned the highly commended award for ‘Cloudy Bay’ and Terri Maddock’s ‘Wilson River 2’ earned commended.
Still Life and Flowers section was won by Linda Lockyer ‘Lamp Light’. Dorothy Taylor’s ‘Pink Roses’ earned highly commended and commended wen to Rita Carosi for ‘Just Dessert’.
The Drawing section’s first prize was awarded to Patricia Clarke for ‘A Place to Remember’. Highly commended was awarded to Jill Cairns’ ‘Falling Water’ and Bernice Daher’s ‘Seemed Like a Good Idea’ was commended.
Di Podmore was named the Emergin Artist for her work ‘Twilight’.
Proceeds from the exhibition this year will go towards HVFAA establishing a youth grant to help a student in furthering their studies in art.
