The facility has been closed since work to upgrade it began in May.
A council spokesman said the contractor is still on site trying frantically to get the work completed, and that should be finished this year so the pool will be open for business early in January.
“However, it is weather-dependent, so we cannot give a definite date at the moment,” he added.
Schools in the town have not been able to hold their usual swimming carnivals.
Campaigner Diane Gilbert from Wauchope Community Heated Indoor Pool said she was hoping for news soon of an opening date.
“I thank the community of Wauchope and district for their patience in this matter,” she added.
The pool has experienced the effects of aging and significant increases in swimmers.
Both the 50 metre pool and toddler pool are being repaired. The wet deck system is being upgraded and the 3m diving board revamped.
The concrete pool surrounds and paths are being renewed and there’s a new pool heating and filtration system. A key enhancement will be a new access-friendly entry ramp.
