It’s not a business of the future, it’s Plunketts Chemmart Pharmacy and the team has just been named the state’s Chemmart Pharmacy of the Year.
After meeting a stringent criteria to even enter the quest for state honours, pharmacy owner Judy Plunkett said a comprehensive submission was required to be completed.
“Chemmart Pharmacy sets a high bar and this award represents our efforts over 12 months,” Mrs Plunkett said.
“We pride ourselves on being a health destination where we provide many levels of care to our customers and friends.
“As part of this process all our staff successfully completed training modules – called Chemmart College – while all of our pharmacists are capable of providing flu vaccinations in one of our two consultation rooms.
“This pharmacy has built a 34-year reputation for providing that personal touch … where we are very involved in our community and have an excellent rapport with our customers.”
Mrs Plunkett said the state award confirmed the pharmacy provided good customer service, professional care, a range of care services and was involved in the community.
While good old fashioned service is at the forefront, the pharmacy’s decision to move to a forward dispense model has proved a master stroke. It is one of just 60 pharmacies in Australia to install the German-built ROWA automated dispensing service.
The robotic system – and you can watch the machine in operation above the dispensing area – scans and stocks shelves, dispenses items on request and – get this – removes the stock and cleans shelves.
“Importantly, our decision to install this system did not cost anyone’s job. It simply allows us to provide more face to face customer time during the consultation and dispensing period,” Mrs Plunkett said.
“This is cutting edge innovation that frees up time for our staff to help customers. We also have a Webster pack machine that automatically allocates the correct amount of medications for customers – which we home deliver for free.”
Among a host of health services, the pharmacy also has a CSIRO-developed weight loss program.
Plunketts Chemmart Pharmacy is in Gordon Street above 5 Star Fitness and opens 7 days, 8am until 10pm.
