The beautification and restoration works are designed to improve the appearance of the landscape and open up views into the cemetery.
Stage one has been completed and stage two includes the removal of the rock walling and signage.
The Port Macquarie 1821 sign will be replaced with a contemporary sign and the existing gates repaired and repainted to maintain a striking entrance point.
Additional seats, paths and a new paved viewing area at the top of the hill, with interpretive signs, will complete the project by the end of the year.
Port Macquarie-Hastings Council approved the concept plan in mid-2014.
