If We All Had Wings coordinator Skye Petho provided the initial cash donation and food vouchers to the Mid North Coast Cancer Institute this week.

The funds were raised at the group’s inaugural dinner in July, from the sale of wings and generous donations from businesses and individuals.

Mid North Coast Cancer Institute social worker Nicole Edwards said funds raised will help local families struggling to pay their household bills while a loved one, and often an income earner, is undergoing cancer treatment.

“The funds are already building up in a Special Purpose Trust established for families in need.

“These people are identified by our social workers as those who would benefit from a helping hand during what is a very difficult time. The assistance includes Hastings Co-op vouchers, ensuring families have access to groceries and fuel.

“We can’t thank Skye Petho enough for her generosity and her efforts to bring the local community along with her ambitious goal of regularly contributing to a Trust fund that specifically helps families with young children and teenagers.

“Knowing help is there if needed is a big weight off some patients’ shoulders, and a huge relief for our staff who can be confident financial assistance will be available for those who really need it,” Ms Edwards said.

Ms Petho said planning was underway for the next round of fundraising.

Features include an exciting public art installation, a special event and a new range of wings for purchase.

“Our vision for If We All Had Wings is a creative collection of artworks and events that bring people together in support of this really important cause. We’re hoping to provide a positive platform for fundraising that also helps build connections in our local community,” Ms Petho said.
