As part of the event, the centre will also be distributing some winter blankets, clothes and other items.
The Food Connect program is a food rescue service that works in partnership with REAP OzHarvest to collect, deliver and distribute rescued food twice per week.
This food is collected from various outlets across the Hastings by REAP OzHarvest.
It is delivered to the neighbourhood centre where it is then sorted and offered every Tuesday and Thursday from 9.30am to those who are disadvantaged, struggling with basic daily living needs, or just doing it tough, said centre spokesperson Julie Trowbridge.
“We never know what is available until the day however we generally have a vast array of bread, baked goods, produce, pantry and frozen items, baby items and more,” Mrs Trowbridge said.
“We do ask for a gold coin donation each day from everyone who visits which goes back into the Food Connect program and enables us to continue to provide the service.
“Some of our wonderful neighbours and visitors often drop in to the neighbourhood centre with produce straight from their garden such as chokos, lemons and oranges.”
The winter warmer barbeque starts at 9.15am at the centre with the Food Connect program underway at 9.30am.
