A community renewable energy project is under way in the Hastings and the group behind the project has organised a celebration.
After a year of planning, Energy Forever has announced its official launch party and fundraiser.
People are invited to join the network members on Saturday from 6pm to 8pm at the Glasshouse for an evening of soulful tunes, delicious treats and intriguing speakers such as Jarra Hicks from the Community Power Agency.
Entry is free and there will be prizes on the door.
Energy Forever committee chairperson Steve Lockhart said the host site for the first solar power system had been selected and they were looking for other sites.
“The main purpose of the Solarbration is to raise funds for the panels to go on the first site,” he said.
“By becoming a donor, you will be part of the clean energy revolution happening right here in the Hastings.”
The electricity from each panel will be sold to the host site at a competitive rate with funds going into a grants program for sustainability projects.
With a 21 per cent return over the life of the project, the benefit for the community is effectively tripled.
Individuals, groups or businesses can sponsor a panel for $333, and will receive a certificate, recognition on our honour wall, and the satisfaction of having helped create a more sustainable region.
