Aaron Grose and Sam Wilson bagged two goals each in the 4-3 win over the bottom placed Taree Wildcats at Tuffins Lane as FC continued its late season resurgence.
Each player set the other one up at least once as the pair are finding their combination again.
The victory also indicated that FC had turned a corner. The host team fought back when the Wildcats clawed their way back into the contest.
Grose had given his team the lead early in the first half and Wilson extended it after the break, but Taree defied its bottom position midway through the second half.
FC was in the middle of its best period of football, but a rash challenge gave Wildcats a penalty.
It was one of two they scored on Saturday, but FC coach Tony Wilson was pleased with the heart his team showed in response.
Earlier in the season, FC might have rolled over and given the opposition a draw or even a victory, but that didn't happen on Saturday.
Wilson was still a pleased man yesterday when he spoke to the Port News.
"Already, I'm pumped up for Saturday," he said, referring to next weekend's match against Wallis Lake.
FC has beaten last season's premiers once already this season, and Wilson was confident the team could do it again.
"They're the teams who want to play football," he said.
He was thrilled that FC was finally starting matches well and playing good football for the majority of contests.
"Let's just hope that continues to come out," Wilson said.
His son Wilson and Grose will be central to the good results flowing.
Tony Wilson is reluctant to talk up the younger man, but the fact is, his return has given the team a boost.
Defender Mitch Davis was a standout on Saturday, too.
"He was fantastic at the back," Wilson said.
