Two goals to Aaron Grose allowed FC to win 2-1 at Dixie Park in an important win for the men in blue.
It means FC has now knocked off both of last season's grand finalists after an earlier win against Wallis Lake.
That was the highlight display of the season so far, but Saturday's victory against United was a close second.
FC was forced to do its fair share of defending as United knocked constantly on the door, especially in the second half.
Keeper Terrance Stafford made some fine saves as the opposition searched desperately for an equaliser.
Earlier, Grose cut inside the United defence to open the scoring at the 15 minute mark.
Jake Avery got on the end of a nice pass from Josh Casey to slot the ball in and equalise, but Grose gave FC the ascendancy again shortly after.
Grose put a nice free kick from the edge of the United area into the net.
That was the way the score stayed until the end of the match, but United went closer than FC to finding another goal.
Sam Langley had a great game down the left for FC. Young Nick Brown was also good in defence when he came on.
Coach Tony Wilson could have done with another goal to ease the nerves towards the end of the match.
He wasn't very relaxed in the FC technical area.
"I was shaking towards the end of the game, just holding out," he said.
Like the Wallis Lake game, the team had some luck on the field.
"But did we make our own luck there? Who knows?" he said.
"What I'm saying is, we deserved that."
He saw similarities between the match and the Wallis Lake game.
Wilson wants the team to show some great spirit for the second half of the season.
"If they're prepared to play like that, week in and week out, we're not bottom of the table," he said.
The team plays Macleay Valley Rangers next weekend to kick off round two.
The two teams battled for a 3-3 draw last time they met, and Wilson said the United match stood FC in good stead to again do well.
United coach Chris Walsh said his team had been flat in attack for the past three weeks.
"It hasn't been good football," he said.
"We couldn't string more than three passes together."
"It was disappointing for us."
He took nothing away from FC's performance in a match where the visitors were underdogs.
"I think they did well, and they deserved to win," he said.
He had plenty of praise for Stafford in the FC goal.
"I think we had four shots from inside the six yard box, and he saved them all," Walsh said.
United starts round two next weekend with a match against last year's grand final opponent Wallis Lake. Then it's Macleay Valley Rangers and Camden Haven.
Walsh said his team needed to improve.
"We'd better lift our game or we won't be looking at finals football this season," he said.
