In their first hit out on home soil, the Sharks will host the Pirates at regional stadium.
Joining Matt Shipway’s side from Lake Cathie Raiders in Hastings League, the bustling front rower got through 70 minutes against the Breakers last week.
“Tom was awesome last week. He has good feet at the line, he can pass and he’s good with communicating particularly around the ruck,” Shipway said.
“The way he is applying himself at training has been great. We had voluntary training sessions before Christmas and he came along and has turned up to most since then.
“His fitness will improve and he’ll only get better.”
Maguire, who is the son of former North Sydney Bears first grade player Gary, is no stranger to hard work and said the challenge of group football was too hard to pass up.
“I joined the Sharks for a challenge playing against stronger teams in a stronger competition,” he said.
“I’m enjoying myself. I’ve worked hard in the off season and it was a good hit out last week so I hope I can continue that against Old Bar tomorrow.”
The Sharks dropped a lot of ball in the second half of their round one game and that is something he hopes to rectify when they take to the field this weekend.
“We just need to make sure that even if we are winning, that we are getting better,” Shipway said.
“There’s a heap of stuff we can do better from the weekend. I was more frustrated then upset.
“We need to be able to play basic footy without making mistakes and giving away penalties, which proved hard to do on the weekend.
“Everyone has to do better in that regard.”
The Sharks will be without several players.
Luke Sprague has concussion and David Geary is unavailable.
They will also have to take on a fresh Old Bar side who enjoyed a week off thanks to the bye.
“No matter if we have guys out or not we want to keep winning and we know what we have to do tomorrow to take home the points.”
Kick off is 3pm.
