RUTHERFORD'S Tim Clarke is one of many diehard South Sydney supporters wary of a hoodoo. Forty-three years without a premiership, or even a grand final appearance, will do that to you.
But after passing up the chance to be there for the Rabbitohs' preliminary final win last week, Mr Clarke is taking on his own jinx and heading to the NRL decider at ANZ Stadium tomorrow.
Mr Clarke, a Souths fan for almost 20 years, had convinced himself he was a mock for his team after the Rabbitohs lost key games in recent seasons when he attended.
"I got last Friday night off, we got a babysitter and I was umming and ahhing whether to go, and my mate I was going down with even won some free tickets, but I couldn't do it to myself," Mr Clarke said.
"My mate kept letting me know about it for the full 80 minutes as well, saying 'We should be there'."
The 33-year-old was set to respect the hoodoo again this week for the decider against the Bulldogs, but he had his arm twisted.
"I wasn't going to go, but my wife Rachelle got me on Sunday and said 'It's not real'," he laughed.
"She said go down and enjoy it for what it is because it could be another 40 years until they are in there again.
"I thought about it and changed my mind about 10 times, but then I thought, stuff it, I'm going."
Thankful to score tickets from a friend of a friend who was hoping Manly would make the grand final, Mr Clarke will head to the game with mate Ian Spruce hopeful the Bunnies will end their premiership drought.
"Before the kids came along, when Rachelle and I used to go into the Burrow most weekends, there weren't too many games you came away with a win," he said.
"There were some long afternoons in Bay 34.
"But everything just seems to be coming together for the team on and off the field now, and I'm just excited."
So excited, that he has already prepared for a worthy celebration.
"We've had to rearrange a few things now that I'm going," he said. "Our daughter Megan turns five on Monday and with a good chance daddy might not be home, we've moved the birthday party forward to Saturday," he laughed.
