2014 HASTINGS LEAGUE GRAND FINAL
That's full time. Kendall have scored a fabulous 34-20 win over the Comboyne Tigers.
We will have the Wauchope Gazette player of the grand final shortly.
Kendall five-eighth Jahbe Latham was named the Wauchope Gazette player of the grand final. Latham directed much of the attack for the winners but had plenty of competition from the likes of halves partner Alex Pearce, captain coach Chris Hanlon, and hooker Luke White.
For Comboyne, Beavan Castles with two tries, Shannon Lee at hooker and lock forward Benny Wadwell gave it their all. Blake Reis was again impressive.
Tigers coach Troy Bell also announced his retirement after eight years at the helm of the club at the mountain. He is responsible for much of the recent success enjoyed by the Tigers.
76th: Kendall's replacement Arnold Turnbull put the issue beyond doubt with a stirring 30 metre run to the tryline. Alex Pearce landed the easy conversion attempt to push Kendall to 34 and Comboyne 20.
72nd: Comboyne pass intercepted by Kendall's halfback, Alex Pearce, who sprinted to the tryline. Is that the match-winner for the Kendall side? Pearce took the sideline conversion attempt had one linesman flagging it in and the other out. Referee Rod Copp ruled it as good. Kendall 28 lead Comboyne 20.
60th: Beavan Castles scored his second try of the game when he burst onto an inside ball. On an angled run, the front rower was able to score close to the posts. Kyle Debreceny's conversion just snuck inside the left hand upright. Kendall 22 lead Comboyne 20.
55th: Jahbe Latham sliced through some sloppy Tigers defence on a 20 metre run to the line. Despite the attempts by the last line of the Comboyne defence the five eighth crashed over. Alex Pearce booted the extras: Kendall 22 lead Comboyne 14.
50th: Kendall on the attack but a looping cut out pass was intercepted by Tiger winger Beau Dorrington. The winger outsprinted the Kendall cover to score a fabulous individual try. Dare we say it: something like his dad Peter Dorrington when he turned out for the Magpies, Beechwood and the Byabarra Bulls. Kyle Debreceny failed miserably with the conversion attempt. Kendall 16 lead Comboyne 14.
43rd: Tigers on the attack and Beavan Castles was able to get over the tryline to post first points in the second half. The Tigers look a different side, even in these early stages with some bullocking runs by the forwards. Kyle Debreceny landed the conversion: Kendall 16 lead Comboyne 10.
Second half is now underway.
That's half time in the decider: Kendall 16 lead Comboyne 4.
34th: Tigers second rower Dennis Jones penalised for a high shot.
32nd: From a scrum win 10 metres out from his own line, Kendall fullback Daniel Minns burst through some soft and grabbing Tigers defence and then outsprinted the Tigers defence to score in the canteen corner. That could be a game breaker near to the half time break. Alex Pearce landed the sideline conversion for a 16-4 lead to the Kendall side.
20th: Dennis Jones scored in the junior league ground corner for the Comboyne Tigers after Shannon Lee regathered a misdirected grubber kick. Kyle Debreceny missed with the conversion. Kendall 10-4 leaders.
12th: Tyler Smith doubled the Kendall score with a try under the posts. Alex Pearce booted the simple conversion from in front for a 10-0 lead to the Blues.
8th: Kendall opened the scoring through winger Jake Kingston in the scoreboard corner. Blind side move opened the Tigers defence close to the line. Alex Pearce missed the conversion. 4-0 to Kendall Blues.
