The result was an added bonus for players, spectators and supporters of the club who were also celebrating the Dave McCormack Memorial Day.
Vikings senior player Adam McCormack said it was an emotional but good day. “The club put on a really good day and made it very special,” he said.
“It was nice to have all the family there taking part.
“It’s a nice day to be there listening to all the words that everyone had to say about dad.”
The Vikings took to the field in the first grade match but were given a shock early when Coffs were the first to score under the post.
Coach Andrew Kable said his team soon turned it on.
“It was a bit similar to last week,” he said.
“We were caught a bit off guard early and they scored an easy try.
“But to the boys credit, that woke them up a bit and they went into the break in control 25-7.”
One of the standout players on the day was Gil Hopley. He crossed the line on three separate occasions.
Kable said it was a great effort for Hopley who was even playing out of position.
“He normally plays open side flanker but this week he was blindside flanker,” he said.
“He told me afterwards he had never scored more than one try in a game in his whole career.”
Hamish McCormack and Tom Woods were other stand out players on the day.
Kable said no matter the outcome from the two remaining competition games his side had secured the minor premiership.
“It’s been our only goal all year to take out the minor premiership,” he said.
