In January 2011 weeks of rain and a massive storm saw many areas of Queensland under flood. A wall of water swept through the Toowoomba CBD engulfing buildings, washing away whole streets, taking cars and people caught in the tide.
Donna Rice and her sons Jordan, 13, and Blake, 11, were trapped in the fierce water. Many attempts were made to save the three, but the water was too strong.
"Take my brother first," Jordan told rescuers.
Blake was taken to safety. When the rescuers returned, Jordan and his mother were gone.
The loss has been devastating for Blake and Jordan's father John Tyson. A foundation has been established to ensure Jordan's memory and sacrifice lives on and in turn, help those that may find themselves in a similar situation of loss and grief.
The Jordan Rice Foundation will benefit from a charity day of rugby league in Kendall on July 19 and will channel money raised to the Kim Walters Choices program for people with breast cancer and the Rise For Alex organisation.
Junior games will be held in the morning and senior games from 1pm (Harrington v Comboyne) and 3pm (Kendall v South West Rocks).
Organisers are keen to also support Jordan's father John in his quest to have his son honoured by the Cross of Valour Award; the highest award for civilian bravery in Australia.
The Kendall Blues have organised a number of fun activities for the day including a Dash for cash, highest bomb with a football and a skydiver will bring down the match ball for the main game at 3pm.
Every lady will receive a glass of pink champagne on arrival and the Blues will play in specially designed pink jerseys, shorts and socks.
After the games the festivities continue at the Kendall Services and Citizen's Club where jerseys will be auctioned along with other big ticket items.
Three Kendall "icons" TK, Shannon Kennedy and Alex Pearce will shave their heads and beards to raise further funds for the Jordan Rice Foundation.
