But the club's best surfers went to work on the weak peelers running through.
Young guns and the likes of Open winner Mitchell Van Der Veer showed they're comfortable approach to smaller waves.
While others struggled to make the scores in the less than favourable conditions.
Despite the lack of waves, the day proved a great send off to yet another epic year for the growing club.
On Saturday, the club announced the winners of the final day of competition and celebrated almost a year of good times shared in the water.
Club spokesman Kirk Buckley said 2013 had been a great year for the club, especially with a huge contingent of grommets joining the ranks.
"We've had heaps of young guys join this year," Buckley said. "It's been great to have them in the water.
"They've all improved out of sight."
The club has undergone as huge revival since 2006, when it was virtually not running.
Today, there is a passionate group of local guys making sure the club continues well into the future.
The club days have given young surfing talent an opportunity to showcase their skill and be challenged by some of the more experienced watermen in the community.
"It makes them more comfortable in the water, but really, it's getting to more of a case of us older guys finding it hard to keep up."
