A Port Macquarie man has been charged with indecently assaulting a child and possessing child abuse material following his arrest by detectives this week.

The man was arrested after police received reports on Wednesday that a nine-year-old was indecently assaulted by a man known to her family.
Child Abuse Squad detectives from Port Macquarie began investigating and arrested the man and searched his home on Thursday.
Police allege child abuse material was found in computer equipment in the house.
The 52-year-old man was charged with aggravated indecent assault and possess child abuse material.
He was granted conditional bail to appear at Port Macquarie Local Court on May 8.
Investigations are continuing.
