Public Information and Inquiry Centre open

The Public Information and Inquiry Centre has been activated in response to the current severe weather being experienced in NSW.

It will open from midday today and members of the public can contact the Public Information & Inquiry Centre on 1800 227 228.

With heavy rain falling Deputy State Emergency Operations Controller, Assistant Commissioner Alan Clarke, said people can do their part by staying well away from floodwater.

“Emergency services are tied up assisting people who have been affected by the weather and shouldn’t have to divert their resources to those who don’t heed warnings and act in a foolish manner.

“Motorists intending to drive are urged to slow down, be patient and drive to the conditions as many roads are affected by surface water,” he said.“Most importantly motorists need to be mindful of the dangers of flooded roads due to hidden dangers and debris. Drivers should never enter floodwaters or cross flooded causeways,” Assistant Commissioner Clarke said.

The NSW State Emergency Service is advising that people take care and follow this advice:

* Never drive through floodwater
