The paper took out the 2012 Media Award for an Outstanding Feature at the awards night held at the Sydney Olympic Park Tennis Centre on Saturday.
Our coverage centred on the Hockeyroo Hollywood’s visit. She was a hit with the many kids who lined up for autographs. She was also in awe of our Ocean Drive facilities, and the Port Macquarie organisation.
The awards have run since 2007. Hockey NSW communications manager Tessa Conboy said the awards had many aims.
“They’re about the celebration and acknowledgement of individuals involved across every facet of hockey within NSW; supporters, players, officials, coaches, and of course, media,” Conboy said.
“It is a chance for the community to come together and celebrate the previous year’s achievements, as well as noting those teams who performed extremely well at the National Championships.”
A stalwart of the sport in Port Macquarie, Ben Webb, took out the Senior Services to Hockey award.
