PORT Macquarie High School held its first special assembly last Friday to honour its 2012 HSC Dux, present this year’s captains with their blazes and present Year 12 with their senior badges.

The previous year’s Year 12 achieved exceptional HSC results with 42 band six and 112 band five results, and 10 students scored an ATAR university ranking above 90.
From this group it was last year’s School Captain Katie Piper who became the HSC Dux with an ATAR of 97.65.
Katie delivered an inspiring speech to this year’s Year 11 and 12 students.
She said that the HSC for her wasn’t so much about numbers or an ATAR but about fulfilling personal goals which as a consequence brought success.
Sitting for the HSC wasn’t just about the study but growing as a person and a vehicle to show your potential.
She emphasised that the teachers weren’t there just to help academically but were also friends and mentors.
Katie made it very clear that for her it had indeed been a privilege to be a student at Port Macquarie High School.
Katie will be undertaking a double degree in Fine Arts/Law at the Queensland University of Technology this year.
The incoming captains for 2013 were the presented with their blazers and badge of office and on behalf of fellow Captain Mitch Davis and Vice Captains Sydonie McLaughlin and Chris Reed, Kiralee Munday spoke of their pride in being given the role and their aspirations to emulate last year’s captains.
The final but important duty was to present Year 12 with their badges.
