In a Severe Weather Warning issued today by the Bureau of Meteorology, very heavy surf is expected to develop today which could lead to localised damage and coastal erosion for the Northern Rivers district.
Heavy rain will extend into the Mid North Coast forecast district in addition to the Northern Rivers and Northern Tablelands, with local 24 hour totals in excess of 200 mm likely in these areas. Additional locations which may be affected on Sunday include Tenterfield, Armidale, Coffs Harbour, Port Macquarie and Taree.
On Monday heavy rain is expected to extend further south to the Lower Hunter, Sydney Metropolitan and possibly to Illawarra.
Conditions are expected to gradually ease in the Northern Rivers during the day and in the Mid-North Coast later in the afternoon and evening.
The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
Move vehicles under cover or away from trees.
Secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony.
Keep clear of fallen power lines.
Don't drive, ride or walk through flood water.
Keep clear of creeks and storm drains.
If you are trapped by flash flooding, seek refuge in the highest available place and ring 000 if you need rescue.
