Start date depends on funding

THE success of funding submissions will determine a vocational rehabilitation program’s start date.

There is funding on the way to employ a person to write a business plan and compile further funding submissions designed to meet operational costs of Endeavour Mental Health Recovery Clubhouse.

The building will open in April at Hamilton Green but the program will kick off at a later date.

Work for the Dole participants, under the guidance of Phil Pittis, are building the clubhouse, while the project involves tradesmen where needed.

About 40 Work for the Dole participants have been involved with the project since February.

The building has reached the internal fit out stage.

Endeavour Mental Health Recovery Clubhouse chairman Bob Boss-Walker said the building would be used for committee meetings at the first stage.

The vocational rehabilitation service will operate on the clubhouse international model.

“It will provide mental health consumers with the opportunity to advance their recovery at their own pace with their peers,” Mr Boss-Walker said.

The clubhouse will be run for the members by the members with support from staff.

The program has no membership fees and attendance is voluntary.

The project attracted a state government grant of $150,000 and a fundraising committee collected more than $80,000.

Fundraising efforts are ongoing.

Mr Boss-Walker said Endeavour Clubhouse would not have been possible without the dedicated team of volunteers.
