The upcoming release of the draft plan is a key step in managing the Crown waterfront land.
It comes after the state government granted legal protection to Westport Park in 2011.
The draft plan of management for the broader foreshore is the next step.
Deputy Premier Andrew Stoner and Port Macquarie MP Leslie Williams called for community comment on the draft document known as the draft plan of management for Hastings regional crown reserve, precinct A.
Mr Stoner said the regional Crown reserve covered an extensive tract of Crown land, with precinct A including the Port Macquarie Marina, Kooloonbung Creek harbour and Town Beach Reserve.
“A draft plan of management has been developed by the NSW Government, Port Macquarie-Hastings Council and the Foreshore Lands Advisory Group (FLAG) in order to determine the future management of this important public reserve,” he said.
The draft plan can be viewed from Friday at Port Macquarie-Hastings Council, the Taree Crown Lands office or online at www.crownland.nsw.gov.au/crown_lands_/crown_reserves/management
Mr Stoner said the draft plan identified key community objectives for future management of the Crown foreshore reserves from Settlement Point to Town Beach.
Port Macquarie MP and FLAG chairwoman Leslie Williams said our local community had shown just how important it was for our foreshore to be protected and enhanced. The community won the battle to protect a slice of land at Westport from development. Mrs Williams said the plan of management would complement other planning strategies developed by council and supported by the community.
She said the strategic aim of the draft plan was to develop the Port Macquarie CBD waterfront as vibrant, interactive and supportive of the local economy.
“The precinct should become a sustainable social, environmental and economic hub that will better cater for the existing and future needs of Port Macquarie,” Mrs Williams said.
However, she said any future development of the foreshore within the precinct would remain relatively low key.
