Sadler’s Wish cruised home after taking the lead 400m from the finish to take a three-and-a-half length win in front of three of her owners, who had driven up from Sydney for the day.
Eventual second-placed Goldcoyne, with Port Macquarie’s Cassie Schmidt aboard, went out hard early, but jockey Daniel Edmonds steadily reeled Schmidt in.
“Daniel rode well,” Quinn said. He said Sadler’s Wish was never really threatened.
“She was a bit better than them,” he said.
The Jenny Graham-trained Analie’s Daughter completed a Port Macquarie trifecta, after Kassie Furness piloted her to third place. It was her third successive win. If all goes well, Quinn will have her in action again at Port on Sunday week, before Canterbury’s night meeting towards the end of January.
“[But] I don’t want to take her down there with any question marks over her,” Quinn said.
Edmonds has been strong for Quinn since reuniting with him when he moved to the area. He was Quinn’s apprentice when he trained down in the Hawkesbury area, and Edmonds reuinted with Quinn about eight weeks ago.
Since then, he’s rode three winners for Quinn in the past month.
“He’s a nice young guy, and it’s good to see he’s getting a bit of a kick along,” he said.
Port jockey Marlon Dolendo’s day got off to the perfect start.
He took out the first race of the day, the Licensed Real Estate Agent Nick Fazzolari E&G Maiden Plate 1106m, aboard Azzalin for trainer Don Robb. Dolendo then took Ahbelle to the win in the Harelec Offgrid Solar F&M Maiden Plate 1106m.
Another of Quinn’s stable, Dollydidit, came second in that race, also under Edmonds. Dolendo was denied the chance of a hat-trick when his third ride, Port trainer Tas Morton’s Belaction, was scratched, but he won his next race.
That was on Shamekha’s Choice, for trainer Neil Godbolt, in the Harelec Offgrid Solar Class 2 Handicap 1006m. The Todd Howlett-trained Our Magic Miss, jockeyed by Scott Thurlow, came second in that race. Schmidt came third, riding Roman Victory.
