Jason Robert Herbert, 40, was last seen near the Pacific Highway at Hexham shortly after 2am on Saturday.
He had previously served a 15-year jail sentence after being convicted of unlawfully causing grievous bodily harm and armed robbery.
Following information received over recent days, investigators now believe Herbert could be in the Coffs Harbour area.
The public are being urged to keep a lookout for the man and if sighted to contact Triple Zero immediately.
Herbert is considered dangerous and should not be approached.
He has been described as Caucasian appearance and between 185cm to 190cm tall. He has a medium build, hazel eyes and brown short hair.
Media reports say Herbert is seeking revenge for his brother, Troy Matthew Herbert, who was killed while riding his motorbike in 2009 as he tried to outrun the police officers in Perth. The officers are now being offered protection.
‘‘We’re aware of the situation and have taken all the necessary actions to ensure the safety and security of all WA police officers,’’ a WA police spokesman said.
This is the second time Herbert has been on the run.
He escaped authorities in July only to be recaptured and imprisoned for four months.
A 2010 inquest into the motorbike crash found a police car reached 198km/h in a 60km/h zone, but had aborted the chase before the crash occurred.
