A Police and Community Youth Club is on the drawing board as part of an expansion plan Port Macquarie Indoor Sports Stadium.
It comes after the federal government allocated $2.8 million for a two court stadium expansion and the state government announced a $2.5 million grant for a PCYC within an complex.
Both of the grants come with deadlines.
The federal money must be spent by June 30, 2014 and the PCYC must be established within this term of the state government.
Concerned residents from the Hibbard area will attend today’s council meeting with a late report, containing a four-part recommendation, on the agenda.
It recommends an endorsement of the earlier application made under administration for the expanded Port Macquarie Indoor Stadium to include the development of a PCYC.
More community engagement would then follow.
The report said the project had reached a critical hold point.
“Prior to any further consultation and engagement on an expanded indoor stadium, staff are seeking direction from council regarding the inclusion of a PCYC at the site,” the late report said.
“Should this not be supported then council will be foregoing the opportunity for the $2.5m grant currently approved.”
The report said determination was further required to ensure the federal Community Infrastructure Grants funding was not jeopardised in terms of timelines.
Other issues before today’s council meeting include Lake Road interim traffic improvements.
A recommendation proposes to defer interim traffic improvements until the result of a Black Spot funding application is known.
The application results are expected in January.
Another report contains a recommendation to endorse the Lake Road 40kph “high pedestrian activity area” between Savoy Street and Hill Street.
The proposal would go on public exhibition.
The Glasshouse finances are also on the agenda in a report which includes Glasshouse loans and early payment initiatives.
The council meeting will be held in the council chambers from 5.30pm today.
