Dozens are taking part in the fundraiser designed to raise awareness and funds for men’s health and to fight prostate cancer and other commonly ignored well-being issues.
Earlier in the month the Port News featured Port Macquarie Westpac Business Centre Mo Bros Tim Farnsworth, Matt Thompson, Chris Perry and Les Murray, who aim to raise at least $5000 for the cause.
Sue Wilson and her fellow baristas at Peloton Espresso Bar have also taken the Movember spirit onboard. Every day since November 1 Sue, Marli Robinson and Ruben Everingham have sported real whiskers or a stick-on moustache of some kind.
The team has agreed to forego their tips for the month, electing to ask customers to donate for Movember instead.
Sue has worn a veritable wardrobe of different Faux Mos during the last few weeks.
“Some days I’ve worn curly ones, other times I’ll wear the short one or the long droopy one,” she said.
Comments from customers and passers-by have been coming thick and fast. Sue has been photographed by tourists in minivans and had plenty of shout-outs from the street.
“Everyone seems to have something to say or a laugh,” she said. “It’s been a lot of fun and the jar is filling up.”
Like others who have chosen to wear moustaches of the stick-on kind, Sue is looking forward to December 1.
“It gets so itchy, I can’t wait to take it off,” she said.
Ben Kernahan is one of a large group of staff from John Oxley Motors to support the Movember fundraising initiative. The company is running two internal competitions, one for the best moustache and the other involves a prize for the individual who raises the most money. Service advisor, Cameron Ashton, is the hot favourite to take out the Best Mo prize.
“He’s incredible,” Ben says.
“He’s had to shave it off a couple of times for functions on the weekend and yet a few days later he’s got a full handle bar moustache.”
The John Oxley team hopes to raise $2000 or more.
n THE Movember Mega Shave-off will take place at Rydges Port Macquarie this Friday night from 6.30pm. Tickets are $35 per person (See The Happenings).
