That’s just what happened at Sam Ward’s Shelly Beach home recently.
“I heard some scratching at the back door and I just thought it was our dogs,” Mr Ward said. “Twenty minutes later, it [the koala] wandered in to the lounge room ever so calmly and made its way onto the couch.”
Mr Ward and his mate Shayne Redden watched the koala in disbelief.
“I was speechless,” Mr Ward said.
A team from Port Macquarie Koala Hospital collected the six-year-old male koala and released the animal, with a clean bill of health, in Port Macquarie the next morning.
A happy ending for all!
