The preschool will receive a $1,000 grant and an energy audit to contribute towards making its premises more energy efficient.
The not-for-profit preschool has been in operation for 37 years and is run by a volunteer board of management. Heather Mayne, Managing Director of the Port Macquarie Community Preschool, is delighted to win the grant and is confident it will be put to good use.
"The Origin Local Savers grant will help us inform our children, parents and educators about the preschool's own energy efficiency efforts in turn giving them ideas about how to implement similar solutions in their own homes or workplaces," said Mrs Mayne.
"Our most recent board meeting focussed on improving the energy efficiency of our facilities, so this Origin Local Savers grant could not have come at a better time! We are looking forward to improving our heating and cooling systems, to strike a balance between a comfortable environment for our children and an energy efficient temperature solution," she added.
The Port Macquarie Origin Local Savers program concludes this month, and has been supported by the Port Macquarie-Hastings Council and Port Macquarie News.
Grant recipients in the region have also included the Port Macquarie Surf Lifesaving Club, Telegraph Point Community Association and Port Macquarie Historical Society.
Origin Local Savers is an ongoing demonstration of Origin's commitment to helping regional communities become more sustainable. Since March 2012, more than 15 local organisations across regional NSW have benefitted from an Origin Local Savers grant and audit.
