Women's only triathlon challenge

PORT Macquarie Triathlon Club is urging women of the town to leave their blokes behind and head out for a special race on Sunday.

It's the inaugural women's only triathlon at McInherney Park, and sponsored generously both Good Guys and Lorna Jane.

The race is a 250m swim, 9km bike ride and 250m run, and team and individual divsions are held.

The cost for non-club members is $10, or 15 for a team.

Triathlon club publicity officer Leanne Mallyon said the race was a good way for women to get into the sport, and "have a giggle".

Registration is at 6am, for a 7am start.

"If you are a newbie to the sport and a little nervous about taking the first step, there will be plenty of friendly regular club girls down there to show you the ropes and make their way around the course with you if that's your preference," Mallyon said.

Lorna Jane will be down there with lots of colour, goody bags and fun, and The Good Guys who have donated a Delonghi nespresso coffee machine for the lucky draw drawn after the race.
