Sharks Old Boys make a timely return

PORT Macquarie Sharks will soon have an Old Boys Club, just in time for the club's return to Group 3.

A meeting has been called to form the Old Boys Club to be formed and the driving force behind it is former long-standing Shark official Les Murphy, who has stepped aside after 35 years.

The meeting will be held on Sunday, November 25 at the Port City Bowling Club in Owen Street at 12.30pm.

Following the forming of the club there will be a sausage sizzle and then bare foot bowls to kick it off.

"I have had this old boys idea on my mind for some time," Murphy said.

"I thought it was the right time to form a Sharks Old Boys Club.

"The Sharks Old Boys Club is starting to gather momentum. Our Facebook page has more than 130 hits and it all looks exciting.

"Once formed we will set a schedule of events for the Old Boys to enjoy."

On the agenda will be a launch dinner, a race day, a bowls day, a golf day, a Sharks reunion and a trip to Newcastle to attend a Newcastle Knights game.

"We will seriously look at nominating a team in the 2013 NRL Masters Rugby League tournament at Runaway Bay in early March 2013," Murphy said.

"Plus we will have talks with the Wauchope Old Boys Club to play a game prior to one of the 2013 Port Macquarie Sharks v Wauchope Blues Group 3 rugby league matches."

To get involved with the old boys club, email, or search for Port Macquarie Sharks Old Boys Club on Facebook.

"The Sharks Old Boys Club is just not open to former Sharks players, current players can join," Murphy said.

"If you love rugby league, by all means join up as well, we will probably look at a in town membership and an out of town membership, a dress polo, a cap and a season pass to the Port Macquarie Sharks home games could be available to those who are in town "
