Member for Port Macquarie, Leslie Williams said the project is part of the NSW Government’s $50 million commitment to improve safety and traffic efficiency on the Oxley Highway.
“There are about 13,000 traffic movements daily on the Oxley Highway between Wauchope and Port Macquarie,” Mrs Williams said.
“The Hastings is a recognised growth area with traffic volumes expected to significantly increase in the next 10 years.
“This section of the Oxley Highway, about six kilometres east of Wauchope, currently has a poor alignment, inadequate clear zones with few opportunities to overtake.
“The upgrade will mean greater safety for motorists, including realigning the intersection with Rawdon Island Road and widening the highway to accommodate 3.5 metre lanes and two-metre shoulders.”
Early work will include stormwater drainage improvements, utility relocations, site establishment and other preparation work.
“There will be minimal traffic impacts from the early work, some of which will be carried out at night to minimise impacts on traffic,” Mrs Williams said.
“Major work for the project will begin in the coming months and the community will be kept informed as the project progresses.”
