The Indent Tour is a twofold opportunity for young people to first learn what it takes to put on a gig and then in a controlled environment put those new found skills in to action.
Emily Collins from NSW Music said the program has been a success for over 15 years.
“We have been running the INDENT program since 2000 when we realised that young people are wanting to equip themselves with the skills necessary to put on their own gigs and performances,” Ms Collins said.
“Working with local youth across the state, the tour provides hands on experience in how to put on a live show, including promotion and marketing, setting up equipment, sound checks, ticketing and venue liaison.
“Any young music industry hopefuls involved in the tour will get hands on experience in putting on a live gig for a band assisted by the Indent production team.
“We are really passionate about creating opportunities for young people to get hands on experience in the field.
“We know they won’t all go into the industry but we also know some will.”
The group first came to Port Macquarie to host gig creating workshops in February and on March 25 will execute the second part of the tour – the fun part.
“The shows themselves are a drug and alcohol free gig, and from the moment the bands land in town we get those who did the workshop to be involved in the whole bumping in and bumping out process,” she said.
“We find that young people are more and more keen to put on their own shows but aren’t sure how to go about it, but after attending the workshops they are very willing to go out and have a go.”
