The team played at their best to run out as comfortable winners 30-5.
The win was the culmination of a season where a beginning team constantly kept on improving.
The whole team contributed to the win in which all players crossed home plate.
Mel Hunt the lead off batter set the tone hitting the first strike pitched to her deep into left field.
Mel finished the day with three hits a base on balls and four runs.
The first three batters Mel, Shanene Matthews and Chrissy Andrews combined to score half the team’s runs.
Sarah Currie and Jo Cummins combined with Shanene to cover the infield making it almost impossible for the Port Macquarie OFFS to score.
In other defensive highlights Amanda Badger picked up two catches that were ankle high at first base.
The backing up of Fiona Ewan from right field was impressive saving many extra bases.
A highlight for Fiona was her first home run of the season in the fifth innings.
From the coach’s perspective the biggest highlight has been the continual development of the two youngest players Nat Middleton and Jordan Grieve.
Batting lower down in the order these two young ladies combined to score score runs which was more than the whole of the Port Macquarie team.
Jordan was impressive at left field while Nat is becoming a catcher that base runners fear as her throwing arm is getting more lethal.
The team was overjoyed at the end of the game but they did not forget their captain and stalwart Georgia Boland who was unable to play, within minutes they were face timing her on the phone giving her the good news and thanking her for getting the team up and running.
Coach Tom Critchley said the real test came in the major semi-final and today we won easily because of the improvement we have made since round one.
“Altogether it’s been a very satisfying season,” he said.
The club hopes to expand to two teams and will be looking to recruit about seven new players next season to make this a viable option.
