So when two of her colleagues quit as forklift drivers recently, Ruth decided it was time to act.
At the age of 76, Ruth decided it was time to get behind the wheel and get her licence.
“I was venting my spleen at a staff meeting one day, and complained to the boss, Darren Partridge, and I said: ‘I might as well get the licence myself.’ It’s what we needed,” she said.
“It was a bit scary to start with, but it’s only like driving a car with a big load on front.
“We do what we can do by 10 o’clock at night,” she said.
Despite being 76, Ruth has no plans to retire and says she’d feel guilty if she did, because it cost a few dollars to get the licence.
Her husband, Col Currey, has been telling everyone in town about his wife’s achievement, and she jokes that the reason she keeps working is so that he can keep socializing.
