But don’t expect to see the development rising out of the ground just yet.
Bunnings general manager, property Andrew Marks said they were awaiting approval on amended plans before work could begin on site.
“If approved, the new store would represent an investment of over $43 million and span over 18,000 square metres,” Mr Marks said.
“The development could create more than 60 jobs for local residents in addition to the 130 current team members who will transfer to the new store once complete.”
More than 250 jobs would be created during the build.
“We will update the community as soon as timings are known,” Mr Marks said.
He said Bunnings looked forward to continuing to work with Port Macquarie-Hastings Council and the community throughout the development application process.
A new Bunnings Warehouse would replace the Lake Road store.
The Northern Joint Regional Planning Panel will determine an application to modify the approved 18 John Oxley Drive development.
The approved bulky goods development, including a Masters Home Improvement Store, stalled due to the downfall of Masters.
The modification application, which paves the way for a Bunnings Warehouse to underpin the development, includes re-positioning of each building, minor floor area changes and minor modifications to the car park.
The upgrade of John Oxley Drive, including provision for traffic lights, infrastructure works, shareways, bus stop and pedestrian network will remain unchanged, the application confirms.
The council approved a separate application to modify staging and conditions.
