Teams from Westport, Kendall, Telegraph Point and Beechwood Public Schools along with St Joseph’s Primary School at Laurieton threw the footy around.
Matches were split across different age groups – years three and four and five and six, while girls league tag was also played in the younger divisions.
Most schools had two or three teams – a league tag and development teams along with those who had played rugby league for many years.
Northern NSW game development officer Pat Preston said it was a fun day for young players to try the sport.
“The kids got to have a shot at playing footy in a no pressure environment,” he said.
“We hope that the kids that did try footy will sign up for this season.
“It’s realistically a come and try day.”
All players were given Play NRL cards which will allow them to attend an NRL match this season.
