O’Leary proved too good in the men’s open division over Charlie Holt and Bradley Meldrum in clean, quality conditions at Flynns Beach.
With wave heights between three and four feet and minimal wind, O’Leary showed why he has previously been on the world stage.
Association media manager Luke Filipek said conditions were good all day and they were pleased with the numbers of their members who turned out.
“The overall size of the field in the open division was a bit bigger than normal, but the quality stood out,” he said.
“We probably had about 30 members turns up which was a few more than we had last year.”
A change of president in the off-season meant all members were excited about the upcoming year.
“There was a lot of hype around the place with the change in the off-season, but it was good to see everyone again,” Filipek said.
In the grommet division, Tallis Keft was the winner, while Mitch Atherton took out the cadet division.
Finn Black won the junior division while Fraser Smith won the dropknee.
Alex Dade won the first-ever over-35 division contest for the club.
“We decided to catch up with the modern times and run our first-ever over-35 contest,” Filipek said.
“It was also pleasing to see a few parents turn up to help which hasn’t often been the case previously.”
The next club competition will be held on April 29.
