The forecast for the tide and winds has been checked and double checked, the barbeque will be fired up, the face paints are at the ready, and all is in place for a great family day which will see the first of the two races kick off at 10.30am to the cry of ‘Release the Ducks’.
The two races that everyone can participate in are the Business House Duck Race and the Public Duck Race.
The Business House Duck Race sees local businesses go head-to-head after purchasing their special Business Duck for $25 which will see the winner head off to Opal Cove, Coffs Harbour, for a relaxing 5-night break.
Only 700 ducks are sold so your chances of winning such a great prize are very high. Business House ducks are still for sale and you can purchase one by contacting Ian Turner on 0418 688 207.
The Public Duck Race will see 1800 caged ducks lifted by crane high above Kooloonbung Creek where they will have a birds-eye view of the finish line before the bottom of the crate opens up to drop them into the creek and on their way to duck racing history.
At one ticket for $3 or two tickets for $5, you can purchase a duck in advance from Lions locations around Port Macquarie, either in Settlement City or Port Central Shopping Centres.
Tickets are selling fast. Each ticket number corresponds to a duck in the race so there are just 1800 chances to win first prize of $500 – very good odds indeed.
Lions guarantee this is not an April Fool’s Day joke but instead one of their major fundraisers which will see the proceeds from the Duck Race get shared between three very worthy local institutions - Hastings Education Fund, Marine Rescue and the Hope Shop.
