More than 70 local trades, suppliers and consultants attended a recent information session at Panthers Port Macquarie facilitated by Woollam Constructions.
The session catered to a 90 per cent Port Macquarie contingent and discussed current local project details, opportunities for local contractors and lean construction initiatives.
Woollam Constructions managing director Craig Percival is leading the firm on a hunt for greater efficiency across Woollam’s aged care projects.
“There’s currently a big push to work together in the region and drive value with local contractors,” he said.
“As a sector, construction is a long way behind other industries when it comes to efficiency.
“Therefore, as “lean” constructors, it’s our goal to work with contractors from the design stage, to pinpoint issues earlier and adapt our processes.”
Woollam is encouraging workplace and site innovation through the use of prototype technology, and educating and developing lean and modern efficient processes for two of the region’s major aged care developments.
“Both projects are significant for Port Macquarie employment with multiple opportunities across services, structural and other building elements,” Mr Percival said.
“We are keen to give back in the communities we work and engage with local contractors that can demonstrate strong and relevant experience and capabilities wherever possible.”
