Celebrating the evolution of line dancing in the area, the local Hastings club, Diamonds ‘n’ Denim, are hosting a meet and greet followed by an afternoon of social dancing on March 24, at Club North Haven, said to instructor Di Andrews.
“The reason we originally decided to make a line dancing club was because before the early 1990s there was nowhere in the region available to line dance,” Ms Andrews said.
“We have had members come and go over the years and to celebrate 25 years in the region, we wanted to host a social day of dancing for everyone to come back and reunite.
“On the day there will be prizes and giveaways but it is all about people coming together to have some fun.”
Ms Andrews said the day will comprise of no competitions, but rather a fabulous day of social dancing.
“We will have memorabilia and photos from over the years out on display for people to look at and reminisce, but above all it will be all about getting out on the dance floor and having a great time,” she said.
She said that with a membership base of over 80 just in the Hastings, when people come to line dance classes, there is no expectation people know what to do, but over time regular dancers have the ability to memorize hundreds of dances.
“Line dancing can be quite simple, but it can also get quite complicated, and in our club we have beginners right up to those who have been dancing for decades.
“I love line dancing because it is a social activity and everyone who comes is lovely.
“But line dancing is also great for the brain, trying to remember all the steps to different pieces of music can be challenging which helps keep us mentally strong.”
For any past or present members of line dancing in the Hastings or Macleay area there is no need to book in for the reunion, just head along to Club North Haven from noon on Saturday, March 24.
