The new pontoon will improve boat launching, reduce waiting times, improve safety, and make access to the river easier.
In the coming weeks, users of the new pontoon can also look forward to an accessible pathway that will be constructed to allow for safe access to and from the boat ramp.
The construction of the new pontoon was made possible by a joint funding partnership between the State Government via the NSW Boating Now Program ($80,000) and Port Macquarie-Hastings Council ($40,000) as part of the Recreation Action Plan 2017 – 2025.
“We’ve been working closely with the RMS to identify where improvements can be made to local boating facilities across our region,” said Director Dan Croft.
“Our towns and villages are built around rivers, lakes and entrances to the ocean, with boating and fishing popular past times for our local community, and the many tourists who visit each year.
“The conditions are perfect for boating at the moment, so to be able to open the new pontoon ahead of time is great news,” Mr Croft said.
The Member for Oxley, Melinda Pavey MP, said the Boating Now program is delivering new boat ramps, pontoons and jetties, car and trailer parking facilities at key points across the electorate.
“The NSW Government is working on these projects in partnership with local councils to make water activities safer and more accessible,” Mrs Pavey said.
The upgrade to the Rocks Ferry Boat Ramp adds to the recent announcement of planned $1.09 million rejuvenation to two boat ramps in Camden Haven, also being funded in partnership between Council and the NSW Government’s Boating Now Program.
