President of the netball club Lee Spencer said the committee decided at the beginning of last season that headspace was one of the organisations that shared their values as a club.
“Before the 2017 season, as a committee we sat down and decided which groups and organisations we wanted to help during the season and we thought that headspace in Port Macquarie is especially relevant to our member base,” Mrs Spencer said.
“At our presentation dinner we had a disco afterwards with the money raised going directly to headspace so they can hopefully continue to do great work in the community.”
Jules Jamieson, community engagement officer for headspace Port Macquarie, said that she is thankful the netball club decided donate funds to headspace and the causes the mental health organisation supports.
“We are really grateful for what the Port Macquarie Saints have done and it is fantastic to see a sporting club put emphasis on the need for strong mental health among young people,” Ms Jamieson said.
“The money raised by the netball club will go towards funding community outreach programs designed to help and support young people, which will include a variety of workshops and social activities.
“Collaborations like this one with the Port Macquarie Saints are all about raising awareness in the community for what headspace does and allows more people in the community to be aware of the programs we run.”
