Rob Parker’s 43 proved the difference as St Andrews defeated Port City Leagues Magpies in the final with just two balls to spare.
Organiser Darren McCudden said they chased down the Magpies target of 123 for the loss of three wickets after requiring 14 runs off the final over.
Playing for St Andrews, Macquarie Hotel’s Premier League batsman Ethan Hyde disposed of his regular teammates to all parts of the ground in the semi-final.
“Ethan just killed them in the final,” McCudden said.
“It was the best day of cricket we’ve ever had; some of the catches that were taken and the sixes that were hit were huge.”
Earlier in the day, Tim Harris guided Port City into the final with a well-compiled knock of 60 as his side snuck home over Beechwood on the last ball of the semi-final.
Best bowler for the day was Blake Larance who took four wickets that included a hat-trick, while Hyde topped the runscoring with 103.
“The generosity shown by all the clubs was just tremendous,” McCudden said.
“We ran out of tucker and the volunteers from the bush fire brigade said they filled their tins with donations.”
Ricky Arnell won the 100-metre sprint, Jesse Schmidt won the longest throw, Josh Hyde was nearest to the pin and Tim Harris belted eight sixes to take out that division.
Zac Bruen scored 93 runs in the first two games for St Andrews.
