When I’m out chatting to locals in our region, people often say all council’s activity is in Port Macquarie and not so much in our outer areas.

A particular concern that’s raised is all the work done in the Port Macquarie CBD. What many people don’t realise, is most of the CBD work is not paid for by normal rates, but by the landowners in the CBD.
As representatives of our community, I know that councillors work hard to make sure all areas of our region receive equal focus, based on population and need.
Right now in Wauchope, as well as normal repair work, there are extensive road reseals taking place to reduce ongoing costs. There are also major improvements taking place on Beechwood Road, including a main intersection upgrade to meet the needs of new developmen; as well as water and sewer upgrades. Council times these works together to minimise costs.
Our Wauchope Pool has received a major facelift recently and has been incredibly popular this summer. With the grandstand now installed, diving boards in place, and shade shelters up, construction of a new kid’s water play area is all that’s left to go and should be fully complete by next swimming season.
Local boaties will benefit from investment in a new floating pontoon at Rocks Ferry Reserve, funded by council and the NSW government. It will greatly increase the capacity to launch boats.
Let’s also not forget the $22 million which council and the NSW government are investing in small village sewer schemes for Long Flat, Comboyne and Telegraph Point, to protect our villages and rivers from pollution.
In Wauchope there’s a lot going on, and the same could be said for all areas in our region, not just Port Macquarie.
If you think something needs doing, then have your say on council’s website to help shape the future of our entire region.
