The Rogue Sharks are on their way to a third-straight division title as they continue to set the pace around the North Coast.
Boat captain Wayne Dickson said they had been pushed – especially at Bonny Hills in round seven three weeks ago – but ultimately continue to find a way to win.
“They were beaten in the first two races and then had to win the last three races of the day to win the day overall which they did,” he said.
The surf club hadn’t won the title in that division since the early 2000s and Dickson said it was further indication that what the club is doing is working.
“We have a big city mentality in a country town,” he said.

“We’ve taught the young fellas to have pride in their colours because everyone loves winning and we’ve got a good thing going here.
“Our approach is to teach the crews how to do something because the other approach is to drive them into the ground and then they don’t return.”
The club’s A-grade crew are just out of podium contention and require a top-two finish over the final two rounds to claim third spot.
“They’re battling, but if they finish first or second they’ll claim third in the premiership,” Dickson said.
It is a similar result to last year and Dickson said the club was satisfied with their results.
“They’ve been competitive every weekend and they do have that experience so we should be there or thereabouts.”
Dickson said the club’s open women’s crew were in good form after winning the under-23 country championship.

“The oldest girl is 18 so that was a fantastic effort from them,” he said.
The crew have been “picking up thirds” for most of the season and the boat captain said it had been a strong year overall.
“I don’t think they could have done any better in their first year so we hope they come back for next season,” Dickson said.
First race is on Saturday at Flynns Beach from 9.30am.
