The east bound lane of Lake Rd between the Oxley Highway roundabout and Fernhill Rd will close to traffic for three days.
This is the second of a total of five planned closures required as part of the project. The closure will take place from 6am on Tuesday, February 13 until 6pm on Thursday, February 15.
The closure is necessary to complete asphalting works on the left westbound lane, including the intersections at Toorak Court and Carriage Way.
A detour will be in place during the closure, with traffic travelling east on the Oxley Hwy advised to access Lake Rd via Fernhill Rd.
The west bound lane on Lake Rd will remain open under changed traffic conditions.
“Motorists are being encouraged to consider their travel movements over the 3 days, to allow extra travel time and where possible seek alternate routes,” said council director Alex Fisher.
“As with any road works occurring on a busy road, delays will occur and we ask the community to exercise patience and understanding.
“While we understand the inconvenience that this closure will cause in the short term, we ask that motorists keep in mind the overall easing of congestion that we are expecting once the project is completed.”
Lake Rd is one of Port Macquarie’s busiest thoroughfares, servicing the region’s major industrial area while being used by many locals as a connecting route between the Oxley Highway and Ocean Drive.
The $2.4 million project will see the duplication of approximately 300m of Lake Rd between Toorak Ct and the Oxley Highway.
The work includes road widening to four lanes, kerb and guttering, improved pedestrian access, signage and line-marking, and an upgrade to telecommunications, lighting and stormwater.
