The group has raised a staggering $650,000 since its inception 12 years.
At the group’s annual meeting on January 24, chairperson Bruce Cant was re-elected along with fellow committee members including, Lesley Secomb - vice chair and media officer; Val Mudford - secretary; Betty Ezzy - treasurer; Kerrie Taylor merchandise officer and money tin coordinator, Eileen Davis.
A spokesperson for the group described Bruce as ‘a very inspiring leader for our group’ and someone that ‘works tirelessly behind the scenes and at events to ensure that everything runs smoothly’.
“Funds are raised from manning the gates and collecting entry fees at local football games, the Kempsey Rodeo, manning the BBQ at the Wauchope Show, 4WD Caravan and Camping Show, the Yesteryear Truck Show, the Old Holden's Car Club car show and the Ford Car Club, running raffles and selling our own cookbook, Christmas wrapping in Port Central and many more events,” the spokesperson said.
“We are available to help any club or activity by taking the catering (BBQ, cold drinks) off your hands.
“We have our own BBQ and all the equipment and we only use steaks, sausages and bacon supplied by local butchers and bread supplied by a local bakery.
“Although a small group of some 30 members, we are always looking for new members and if you feel you would like to join us and help support a very worthwhile cause or to purchase our cookbooks at $15 per book (over 100 recipes), contact Bruce Cant on 6585 1613 or Lesley Secomb on 0412 448 110.”
The Hastings Support Group meets the fourth Wednesday of each month upstairs at the Wauchope RSL Club at 5.30pm.
