“If people in the community don’t get behind us this whole place is going to fold and the Kendall Community Hall won’t be maintained,” stall holder Viv Hayward said.
The community-run event has been operating for over a decade and all money raised from the day goes towards the operation of Kendall Community Hall.
“We get charged $5 as a stall holder and that money goes back into maintaining this building,” Viv said.
“Everything is put back into the centre and the community.
“The centre is like the hub of it (the community) and it’s all run by volunteers.”
Stall holders say the market is different from others which are run in the Port Macquarie-Hastings because they are all local stall holders with a wide range of produce.
“It’s what you bake, make or grow,” Yasmin Crane said.
“It’s like a mini farmer’s market.”
Viv said there are computers at the facility which people can use and they can also access essential services including Centrelink.
The hall is utilised by many community groups from the area throughout the year.
“We’ve had a wedding here and a funeral, we can make it open to whatever people want,” Yasmin said.
“It’s a community area for people to come together.”
The Kendall Meeting Place cafe and markets are on every Thursday morning at the Kendall Community Hall from 9am to 12pm regardless of the weather.
The Meeting Place cafe provides fresh home cooked cakes and toasted sandwiches.
The Pick and Pay Market Garden is looked after by green thumb locals and there is a wide range of veggies and herbs on offer.
